UYD Ask Government To Crackdown Homosexuality

The Uganda Young Democrats has asked the Government to do more to fight the vice of homosexuality in schools.

According to UYD officials who addressed the media at the Democratic Party offices in Kampala, the Constitutional Court may have struck down the Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2014 but there are other laws against immorality in Uganda which should be enforced.

The UYD also appealed to the Government to refurbish dilapidated public schools as the new school term gets underway.

The President of the Uganda Young Democrats, Ismail Kirya, who addressed the media at the Democratic Party Kampala offices on City House, urged the government to enforce the law against Homosexuality which is allegedly being promoted in schools by some devious people.

He commended the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa who asked the Government to conduct a deeper investigation into the claims of homosexuality in schools. As part of this probe, Kirya asked the government to sanction schools that have been found wanting and also protect the victims through whom more information can be obtained to effectively crackdown on the vice.

On the matter of high school fees and other charges, Kirya asked the government to work with schools through semi-autonomous govt entities such as National Water to subsidize the cost of utilities to lessen the burden on schools.

Both Government-aided and private schools have justified the hiked in their fees, citing high commodity prices and the high running costs, especially occasioned by high fuel prices.
