We Are Able’ Project Concludes After Promoting Inclusive Development For PWDs Across Uganda

The ‘We Are Able’ project has officially come to a close today, marking a transformative journey for persons with disabilities across five districts in the country.

From financial literacy to social inclusion, the initiative led by a consortium of organizations has empowered communities and reshaped perceptions.

The ‘We are Able project’ has officially closed out today after the project being successfully implemented in the five districts including Telugu, Noya, Arua among others where persons with disabilities have been able to improve their lives and general wellbeing in the society.

With the five-year project that aims to empower people with disabilities in central Africa, the consortium of five organisations including NUDIPU, ZOA and Dutch government among others, a lot of success stories have been registered among persons with disabilities aiding them to carry out savings and investments through financial literacy. Esther Kyozira, the National Union for Persons with Disabilities chairperson mentioned some of the successes that the program has been able to achieve.

This was addressed today during a project out close meeting in Kampala today.

She mentioned how financial literacy has enabled the persons with disabilities in various regions improving their lives through savings and investments among others.

The investor and head of development cooperation of the kingdom of the Netherlands appreciated the work done by the 5 organizations stating that there has been a mindset shift and stigma reduction as a result of the project.

He added that persons with disabilities need to be empowered and not looked down upon.
