102 Rwenzori Attack Suspects Await High Court Trial: Court Adjourns Case To June 17 Pending Committal Suspects Face Terrorism, Treason and Murder Charges

More than 100 suspects linked to the November 2025 Rwenzori attacks remain on remand as the court awaits their committal to the High Court for trial on charges of terrorism, treason, financing terrorism, and murder.

A total of 102 suspects accused of participating in the November 1st, 2025, Rwenzori attacks are awaiting committal to the High Court for trial on charges of terrorism, treason, financing terrorism, and murder.

The suspects, who have been on remand at Maluku Government Prison in Mbale for nearly six months, appeared before Kasese Grade One Chief Magistrate His Worship George Nfintundinda, who adjourned the matter to June 17th pending committal proceedings.

The prosecution alleges that on November 1st, the accused, armed with guns, catapults, pangas, machetes, and spears, simultaneously attacked police detachments and other institutions in the districts of Kasese District, Bundibugyo District, Bunyangabu District, and Kabarole District, leaving both civilians and security personnel dead.

Counsel Barnabas Tinkasiimire, representing the accused under the Biira Josephine versus Nyahabasa application, told the court that the mandatory 180-day remand period for capital offenses has since expired. He said the defense has applied for the suspects to be committed to the High Court for trial, while those found innocent should be released.

Meanwhile, relatives of the accused from Kasese, Bundibugyo, and Kabarole districts expressed concern over the prolonged detention of the suspects without trial, calling on court to expedite investigations and ensure justice for both the innocent and the guilty.

Now the accused remain on remand as the court awaits their committal to the High Court for trial on charges of terrorism, treason, financing terrorism, and murder.
