Former State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga, has urged medical graduates to formalize their professional status by registering with the Ministry of Health to increase their chances of joining government service.

Kabbyanga made the remarks while presiding over the 7th graduation ceremony of Kagando Institute of Health Sciences in Kisinga Town Council, Kasese District, where hundreds of students graduated in various medical disciplines.

A total of 506 students graduated with certificates and diplomas in different medical fields, including nursing, midwifery, and laboratory technology, during the 7th graduation ceremony of Kagando Institute of Health Sciences held in Kasese District.

The colorful ceremony attracted parents, church leaders, education stakeholders, and government officials who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduates and the institution’s contribution to healthcare training in the region.

While addressing graduates, former State Minister for ICT and National Guidance Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga emphasized the importance of registering with the Ministry of Health, noting that enrollment into the ministry’s professional database is essential for those seeking government employment opportunities.

He encouraged the graduates to position themselves as competent and job-ready professionals capable of serving communities across the country.

Kabbyanga also commended church-founded institutions for complementing government efforts in providing quality education and healthcare services, especially in underserved communities.

However, he challenged religious leaders to go beyond spiritual teaching by encouraging communities to fight poverty, embrace hard work, and participate in economic transformation initiatives.

The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku, reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through continued investment in institutions that equip young people with practical and professional skills.

The graduation ceremony was also marked by emotional testimonies from graduates who reflected on the challenges and sacrifices encountered during their academic journey.

Several graduates encouraged continuing students to remain focused and resilient despite the demanding nature of medical training.

Parents and guardians expressed joy and pride as they celebrated the achievements of their children, highlighting the sacrifices made to support them throughout their studies.

Kagando Institute of Health Sciences remains among the oldest and most respected health training institutions in Kasese District.

According to the institution’s administration, plans are underway to elevate Kagando to university status, a move expected to strengthen medical education and expand the healthcare workforce in Western Uganda and across the country.
