FDC Defies Setback, Vows Political Comeback: Amuriat Calls for United Opposition Front. Party Launches Grassroots Mobilization Drive
The Forum for Democratic Change has declared resilience following its poor showing in the 2026 general elections, with party leadership vowing to reorganize, mobilize grassroots structures, and rally opposition forces for a renewed push toward democratic change.
The Forum for Democratic Change has reaffirmed its commitment to the struggle for political change in Uganda, despite a disappointing performance in the 2026 general elections.
Addressing journalists, Patrick Amuriat Oboi said the party is preparing for what he described as “turbulent times” and vowed that FDC will not be intimidated by the current political climate.
We have the report.
Speaking to the media, Patrick Amuriat Oboi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to advocating for democratic governance, noting that challenges faced in the recent elections will catalyse reorganisation and renewed strength.
FDC noted that it secured only nine seats in the 12th Parliament, but leadership maintains that the elected members will remain strong voices for the party’s agenda.
The party president also criticised remarks by Anita Annet, suggesting that the opposition is weakening, insisting that FDC remains relevant in Uganda’s political landscape.
In a move to consolidate opposition efforts, Amuriat called on other political groups, including breakaway factions, to unite in advancing democratic change.
To strengthen its grassroots base, the party announced a comprehensive nationwide training and mobilisation program targeting its local government leaders, focusing on governance, service delivery, budgeting, and oversight responsibilities.
