FDC Katonga Faction Seek East Africa Court Of Justice Intervention For Human Rights Violations

Ramson
Katonga-based FDC leaders led by their president Elias Lukwago have fumed at institutions charged with the protection of human rights saying they are captured and helpless.
He was referring to institutions like the Uganda Human Rights Commission and the courts of law among others.

Lukwago says they are now resorting to continental ignitions like the African Court on Human and People’s Rights where they hope to get justice for the gross violation of human rights in Uganda.
speaking in a press conference held at Katonga FDC offices, the Kampala lord mayor and acting FDC president Elias Lukwago commended opposition members of parliament for boycotting parliament sittings over the violation of human rights.

The opposition led by their leader Matthias Mpuuga has for about two weeks been in and out of parliament for accusing the government of failing to account for several missing persons and continued detention of opposition members.

Lukwago says this is a commendable move and asked his counterparts in parliament not to tire until there’s a clear explanation from the government.
Lukwago expressed his dissatisfaction with institutions like the Uganda Human Rights Commission and the courts of law, which are supposed to assist ordinary people in obtaining justice for any sort of violation.

These institutions he says have been captured and helpless explaining why there are no answers to missing people.

Lukwago accuses the Uganda Human Rights Commission of neglecting their duty and turning the office into political office urging the commission's chairman, Mariam Wangadiya, to resign and join the field of politics.

Lukwago and company have now resorted to running to the ICC and the African Court on human and people’s rights. He says they have been prompted by their failure to obtain justice in Ugandan courts sitting the case in which they had sued the former IGP Kale Kaihura only to be downplayed in the court process.

While Uganda is a signatory on numerous international and continental treaties, there have been cases where the government has turned a deaf ear to directives as a result of these accords.
