
First Lady Commissions Shs1.9 Billion School Facility In Ankole Diocese
The Minister of Education and Sports and the First Lady of Uganda, Mama Janet Kataha Museveni has hailed the diocese of Ankole for raising the education standards high.
She attributed this to the diocese’s choice of leaders they select to head their schools.
Mama revealed this at the official commissioning of the Addis Ababa Dormitory at Mbarara High School in Mbarara City where she was represented by the deputy speaker of the parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa
The First Lady’s comments were contained in her speech read by the deputy speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, at the official commissioning of Addis Ababa Dormitory at Mbarara High School in Mbarara City. The momentum occasion which was held at the school premises was attended by hundreds majority of old students and well-wishers of the school.
The magnificent and fabulous student home worth Shs1.9 billion was constructed by selfless old students of Mbarara High School. The old students’ action was a response to restore the boy’s dormitory which was burnt to ashes in 2016.
The First Lady hailed the corrective vision of the old students for being a good example saying what they did for the school is a manifestation of true patriotism that will inspire the rest to add value to their alumni associations.
She challenged the teaching staff of Mbarara High School to take advantage of the positive contribution of stakeholders to raise the standards of the school higher.
Minister was pleased to note that Mbarara High School is doing well in the implementation of the revised lower secondary curriculum. She said the Ministry of Education and Sports will continue supporting the school for the purpose of producing useful citizens.
She hailed the administration for maintaining the facilities and continuing to teach much-desired skills that prepare the youth for a productive future. She said was aware about many buildings are roofed with asbestos roofs which have long been condemned as hazardous material, the ministry will solve the problem and eliminate the health risks in the school community.
Mama noted that the ministry will continue working closely with all stakeholders to make the school much better. She thanked them for continuing to nurture the boy child.
In his comments, Tayebwa challenged students to have discipline and be focused if they want to become responsible citizens.
“If you start drinking alcohol at this age, you will not improve your future, being at Mbarara High School you have a better opportunity to become important people in your future.
In his speech, Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa- hailed the integrity of the old students of Mbarara High School which he said needs to be emulated by all Ugandans. Bishop Mwesigwa decried the lack of integrity in the country.
He urged all alumni associations to support their schools. He appealed to old boys especially that who adopted Christian values to keep the name of the school.
Hamm Ahimbisibwe the head teacher of Mbarara High School informed the minister that his school is still faced with a number of challenges notably having up to 30 structures with asbestos roofs that urgently need re-roofing and general renovation. He noted that the Lack of sufficient classrooms and laboratories limits their intake in S.1 and S.2.
Prof.William Bazeyo chairman Board of Governors at Mbarara High School-hailed the First Lady for the many good changes she made in the education system which has attracted even students from foreign countries. He also hailed her for championing the new curriculum.
The event was also attended by members of parliament. Mwine Mpaka MP Mbarara City South division hailed old boys of Mbarara High School for what he termed as a great achievement.
Elvin Mugume- head prefect of Mbarara High School hailed the Ministry of Education for its passion and dedication to the betterment of education.
