Gender Ministry, Partners Call For Promotion Of Tax Justice In Business

The gender ministry has emphasised the need to observe tax justice in the business sector believing that it is essential in the observance and attainment of equal human rights and prevention of abuse, especially in the business sector.
The Commissioner of Equity and Rights at the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, Mujuni Benard advocates for the respect of rights especially for vulnerable groups: women and people with disabilities in business to promote economic and social development in the country.
This was during the hosting of the 5th national symposium on Business and Human rights today in Kampala.
Rights activists and the gender ministry have repeatedly emphasised the need to ensure simple access to justice and compensation for vulnerable persons, including women and people with disabilities, in investment projects and programs.
The Commissioner of Equity and Rights at the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, Mujuni Benard mentioned the importance of having equal climate justice, and fair tax regimes implemented equally and not selectively on all business entities, especially the vulnerable group if the sector is to thrive.
Uganda is the second country on the continent to have put in place the importance of the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. Mujuni discussed the benefits that come with the implementation of the business entity.
The country director of Action Aid International Uganda, Servia Enjoyi warned that industrial agricultural businesses can be the main perpetrators of rights abuse that can directly impact lives through forced eviction or land acquisition.
He mentioned that the pressure being put on the country to attract landscape, land-based investment on industrialisation to coming from the debt being owned to international financers needs to be taken off, among other things if the country is to succeed.
This year’s 5th national symposium on Business and Human rights theme was, “Assessing Uganda's journey in access to justice for business and human rights'.
