Government To Bury Four Bodies With Un Matched DNA Results In Kasese

The government of Uganda is to bury four bodies of students of Mpondwe Lhubiriha secondary school who were attacked by suspected Allied Democratic Forces rebels on 16th June this left 44 people dead and some burnt beyond recognition.

This follows reports that the number of parents claiming their children has increased to eleven as the Police forensics department continues to get stuck with four bodies out of the 17 that were burnt beyond recognition during the attack.

On 16th June this year, ADF rebels attacked Mpondwe Lhubiriha secondary school in Kasese district and 44 people were killed including some locals that were near the school at the time of the attack. 17 students were burnt beyond recognition and Government immediately started the process of getting samples for DNA tests and handing over bodies to different grieving families for burial. 13 bodies of the seventeen that were burnt beyond recognition were successfully matched with the respective parents.

Nelson Tumushime the police mouthpiece for Rwenzori East told our reporter that they are still stuck with four bodies whose DNA samples haven’t matched with their relatives.

Lt. Joe Walusimbi the resident District Commissioner for the Kasese district says they will bury these bodies temporarily until their samples match with their relatives and he calls upon parents to keep going for DNA samples that will help the government to get the relatives of these bodies.

The State minister for ICT and national guidance Godfrey Kabyanga says the director of the school should come out and tell where he could have got these students and check his records to find out more details about them

Minister Kabyanga further noted that fresh investigations need to be carried out to know exactly the number of students that were in the school and where they came from.

Speaking to the parents of missing children, they said that since the attack there’s been no economic activity being carried on and they are waiting for Government to explain what is next for their missing children.

The Bishop of Pentecostal churches in the Rwenzori region Moses Okum comforted parents with missing children and encouraged them to remain calm as Government handles the DNA exercises.

Currently, the bodies are in Muhoti Hospital, Mountain Division barracks in Fort Portal and several parents still have to go through the pain of finding their children who were burnt beyond recognition.
