Hoima NRM Joint Campaigns Cancelled As 6 Candidates Petitions Party Chairperson
Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Party Electoral Commission Chairperson has cancelled Joint Rallies for the Hoima District Chairperson by-election NRM Primaries.
The resolution was reached during a meeting with different stakeholders held in Hoima Oil City.
On Monday this week, six candidates boycotted the Party’s Joint Campaigns in Kyabigambire Sub-County citing violence and intimidation by supporters of some of the candidates, bribery of voters, ferrying of people from other places, etc.
Dr. Odoi says the Campaign Program which they had earlier drafted will be restructured and each candidate will be allowed to move alone in the remaining Sub-counties.
He explains that this will enable them to avoid clashes in the party. He also asked the District Security Committee to provide security to every candidate during the time of campaigns.
Michael Kyakashari the Hoima Deputy Resident District Commissioner and Jackson Bogere the Hoima District Police Commander have promised security to all candidates so that they can be able to campaign without being interrupted.
Dr. Fred Kabagambe Kaliisa the Senior Presidential Advisor on Oil and Gas has appealed to Hoima Residents to remain peaceful mostly during this bye-election period.
Uthman Kadiri Junior, a son of the late chairperson Kadiri Kirungi has welcomed the idea of having individual campaigns however 6 other candidates have maintained that they will not participate in campaigns until they meet the party chairperson who is also the president of Uganda.
The National Resistance Movement Party will hold Elections on August 25th this year for the Hoima District Chairperson Flag Bearer.
The Position fell vacant following the death of the former District Chairperson Kadir Kirungi in a motor accident in March this year.
