Kabale Prepares To Commemorate National Youth Day
Kabale district is abuzz with excitement as final preparations are underway for the belated National Youth Day Celebrations set to take place tomorrow. The occasion is expected to be graced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and has drawn the participation of youth leaders, youth-focused organizations, and stakeholders from across the nation.
The event is scheduled to be held at the Kigezi High School lower grounds, located within Kabale municipality. Our correspondent, who visited the venue today, witnessed service providers working diligently to ensure all arrangements are in place ahead of the main event. Tents were being erected, and members of the Uganda Police were marking sections of the stadium where the parade will be held.
David Bahati, the state minister for Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives, who also serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Kabale, was present at the venue to oversee the event's organization and ensure a smooth execution in anticipation of the president's visit. Bahati emphasized the government's commitment to the youth and highlighted the various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of young people in Uganda.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that security measures have been heightened in preparation for the celebrations. He appealed to the public to cooperate with security guidelines to ensure a secure environment during the event.
In the meantime, youth leaders from the Kigezi Sub-region have made a fervent plea to the government for increased funding allocated to their district councils to adequately support youth-related activities. This call was voiced during a pre-youth day dialogue held at Cephas Inn Hotel. The event was organized by the Naguru Teenage Health and Information Centre, National Youth Council, and other partnering organizations.
Ronald Bagamuhunda, the youth councillor for Kabale District, acknowledged the positive impact of government youth programs like the Youth Livelihood Funds and Capital Venture Fund. However, he highlighted the need for greater empowerment, as the current fund allocation falls short of meeting substantial demands. Adrinah Mpirirwe, the Secretary of Finance for Kanungu District Youth Affairs, echoed these sentiments, citing insufficient resources for effective district-level initiatives.
Tadeo Taremwa, the Youth Chairperson for Kabale District, brought a glimmer of hope by announcing the preparation of a comprehensive report. This report aims to be presented to President Museveni, seeking guidance and solutions to empower youth and assist them in recovering from the far-reaching impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Rogers Ampwera, the Executive Director of Naguru Teenage Information and Health Center, emphasized the importance of united efforts in addressing challenges and equipping young individuals with the knowledge to make informed life decisions.
Under the theme "Accelerating Recovery from Covid-19 and Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda: The Role of Youth," this year's celebrations hold significant importance. The event highlights the pivotal role that youth play in overcoming pandemic challenges while driving progress towards the 2030 development objectives.
