PFF Raises Governance Concerns Ahead of Museveni Swearing-In: Ssemujju Calls for Defence of Democracy and Constitutionalism. Opposition Urges New MP’s To Prioritize Citizens Over Political In

As Uganda prepares for tomorrow’s presidential swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, political debate over governance, democracy, and the country’s future continues to intensify.

The opposition party, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), has now challenged Ugandans to remain vigilant and actively defend constitutionalism, accountability, and human rights as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni begins another term in office.

With final preparations underway for the presidential inauguration scheduled for 12th May 2026, the political atmosphere across the country remains both active and divided.

While government supporters continue to celebrate the transition into a new presidential term, opposition leaders say the country is entering another critical political chapter that demands reflection on governance, democratic freedoms, and public accountability.

Addressing the media today, leaders of the People’s Front for Freedom, led by the outgoing Kira Municipality Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, used the occasion to reflect on Uganda’s political journey under President Yoweri Museveni, who has led the country since 1986.

Ssemujju argued that many Ugandans continue to face challenges, including unemployment, corruption, political intimidation, and rising concerns over democratic space.

He called upon citizens to remain united and actively protect constitutional values and human rights.

The opposition leader also directed his message to newly elected leaders and members of the incoming 12th Parliament, cautioning them against what he described as Laziness displayed by some legislators in the previous Parliament.

He urged leaders, especially young politicians, to serve independently and resist political pressure or manipulation.

On the recently passed Sovereignty Bill, Ssemujju claimed the legislation could increase concentration of power within the presidency instead of addressing the daily concerns affecting ordinary citizens.

According to the PFF, Uganda’s long-term stability depends on leadership that prioritizes public welfare, accountability, and institutional independence.

As Uganda heads into tomorrow’s swearing-in ceremony, political leaders from both government and opposition continue to shape national conversations around governance, democracy, and the country’s future direction.
