Serere Locals Call For Calm Ahead By-Election

Locals in Serere County have called for calm ahead of the 23rd February by-election. The parliamentary seat for Serere County fell vacant following the death of Patrick Okabe, the county’s former Member of Parliament.

Okabe died in an accident along the Tirinyi- Mbale road on December 19, 2022. Following the tragic death of Bishop Patrick Okabe, the Electoral Commission set Thursday, February 23, 2023, as the polling date for the by-election of Member of Parliament of Serere County, in Serere district.

Speaking to residents, on the yet to be contested by -election. The revealed of a lot of contention that could hype the election. Lawrence Oyematum a voter in Serere County asked voters to respect election guidelines and maintain peace ahead of the forthcoming by election for Member of Parliament.

Deo Ankunda, the Election Officer in charge of Eastern Region has highlighted on effectiveness of the exercise warning the media on biased reporting. Ankunda has also urged voters aged 18 and above to register and verify their names on the national voters register. Serere County has seven sub counties and town councils.
