UNEB Conducts Key Training for Education Stakeholders on Competence-Based Curriculum Assessment

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has successfully organized a two-day training program in Kyambogo aimed at strengthening the capacity of education officials across the country. Hundreds of Town Clerks, Chief Administrative Officers, District Education Officers, and Principal Education Officers participated in this important event, designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge related to the new Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) assessment framework.

The training was officially opened and graced by Dr. Kedrice Turyagyenda, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, who underscored the government’s commitment to continuous professional development for teachers as they implement the CBC. This initiative aims to ensure teachers are continually assessed and supported to deliver quality education.

During the event, UNEB’s Executive Director, Dan Odongo, highlighted the importance of transparent assessment practices and addressed concerns around score credibility. Participants discussed challenges faced in evaluating learners under the CBC, which emphasizes practical skills and critical thinking instead of rote memorization.

Introduced in 2020 at the lower secondary level, the CBC seeks to better prepare learners for the job market and real-world problems by focusing on skills like problem-solving and critical thinking. This training underscores Uganda’s efforts to align education with modern demands and strengthen school supervision and assessment methodologies.
