
Decentralization Of Migration Offices Excites Locals In Gulu
The decentralization of migrations services, specifically the passport services is putting smiles on the faces of both the business community and locals in the Gulu region.
The business community both foreigners and the indignant, are delighted with the way of accessing the passport services coming closer to the locals who now don’t need to come to Kampala as everything can be done and sorted in Gulu.
During a two days passport clinic that ended yesterday at the main market in Pece-Laroo division Gulu city locals turned up in big numbers for the services which rendered the locals speechless indicating the demand for the services in the region was really high.
Kul Bhoshan an Indian national, and businessman who double as chairperson Indian community said that the long time they spent at migration offices in Kampala has become a nightmare.
Charles Odonga, a resident of Gulu City who came for his passport renewal said that the decentralization of the immigration office in Gulu has reduced the burden of sleeping in Kampala with all the expenses.
Ameny Owalinga Gorge the regional immigration principal officer said that its government’s mandate is to decentralize services in order to allow citizens access to them at their disposal.
The Gulu city mayor, Alfred Okwonga, called upon the business community to utilize this opportunity as a way of expanding their market base in other countries.
Now service offices are open in the Pece-Laroo division of Gulu City along church hill road already issuing and renewing passports and all migration-related activities.
