Government Blamed For Considering Infrastructure Development When They Have Visitors
Councillors and Politicians in Makindye Division, a division that is hosting the NAM Conference, have criticized the government for prioritizing infrastructure development solely during major events.
They argue that this approach has negatively impacted the residents of Makindye, as the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is employing excessive force in its efforts to revamp the division's roads and infrastructure.
With just 48 hours left until the commencement of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) conference, which is being hosted by Uganda at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Councillors and Politicians in Makindye Division find themselves concerned about the ongoing renovations in their locality Yet they have for so long called on the government to help but in vain.
Fausta Bitaano councillor in Makindye west condemned the excessive force that is being used by KCCA while organizing the Kampala capital more so in Makindye saying that they are tarnishing their image.
Bitaano adds that they have reached the extent of demolishing people’s structures, forcing some residents to relocate something that looks awkward despite of NAM Conference taking place in Uganda.
Counsellors say that the mire filling of road potholes is a waste of tax payer’s money.
They are further wary that as Makindye citizens they are likely not to benefit from the NAM Conference as it was in CHOGM.
Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi yesterday condemned Ugandans who criticize the various infrastructure developments ahead of the NAM Conference saying that development remains for Uganda and Ugandans.
