Ugandans Call for Improved Service Delivery in New Presidential Term: Kisenyi Taxi Operators Urge Government to Fight Corruption. Citizens Want Poverty Eradication Programs to Benefit Ordinar

As Uganda begins a new presidential term under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni from 2026 to 2031, citizens continue to express expectations on poverty eradication, healthcare, security, and improved service delivery.

Residents and transport operators at Kisenyi Taxi Park have called on government to ensure that public support programs directly benefit ordinary Ugandans.

Since coming to power in 1986, the NRM government has introduced several empowerment programs, including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Programme, and SACCO initiatives aimed at improving household incomes.

However, many citizens say corruption, unemployment, and poor healthcare services continue to affect communities despite these interventions.

As the new term begins, many Ugandans are now calling for stronger supervision of government programs and better accountability among leaders.

Ssesanga Sulaiman, the vice chairperson for operations at Kisenyi Gwanda Taxi Park, says many intended beneficiaries fail to receive government support because of corruption and misuse of funds.

He urged the government to appoint competent and trustworthy leaders who understand the challenges affecting ordinary citizens.

Sulaiman also called for tougher action against individuals accused of diverting community funds.

Meanwhile, Yasiini Ali, the Assistant Defense Coordinator at Kisenyi Taxi Park, appealed for increased financial support to communities to help fight poverty and improve household incomes.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen security and continue the fight against corruption.

At the same time, Tayebwa Amon, a taxi operator at the Nansana-Wakiso stage, urged government to continue supporting taxi operators through SACCO funding and empowerment programs.

He also appealed for improved healthcare services, saying many transport workers continue to suffer because of poor medical care.
