UPC Congratulates Sworn-In MPs, Calls for Integrity In 12th Parliament Confirms Participation in Kalangala By-Election. Party Urges MPs to Prioritize Service Delivery Over Personal Interests

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has congratulated Members of Parliament sworn in to serve in Uganda’s 12th Parliament, calling on legislators to uphold integrity, accountability, and national unity in their work.

The party says Parliament must remain focused on serving Ugandans and strengthening oversight on government service delivery.

As the swearing-in of members of Parliament continues at Parliament this week, the Uganda People’s Congress has confirmed that eight of its legislators have already taken the oath, with the remaining members expected to be sworn in in the coming days.

Speaking at the UPC headquarters in Kampala, party spokesperson Sharon Oyat said UPC legislators enter the 12th Parliament with a responsibility to champion policies that improve the lives of Ugandans, particularly in health, education, agriculture, human rights, and governance.

Oyat expressed concern over what she described as a growing public perception that Parliament has increasingly shifted from service to personal interests over successive terms.

She noted that many Members of Parliament are now under pressure to personally solve community challenges that constitutionally fall under government institutions and service delivery structures.

The UPC spokesperson urged legislators across all political parties to strengthen oversight and demand more effective service delivery from both central and local government authorities.

Meanwhile, Oyat confirmed that the party has officially received communication from the Electoral Commission regarding the forthcoming by-election in Kalangala District.

She said the UPC leadership will consult local structures to identify a suitable candidate and fully participate in the election.

Based on results from the 2026 general election and reported swearing-in data, the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has secured 12 parliamentary seats in the 12th Parliament of Uganda

The party says its representatives in the 12th Parliament are committed to restoring public trust in Parliament through integrity, accountability, and people-centered leadership.
